LaGuardia's Literary + Arts Magazine
LaGMag is LaGuardia’s Literary Arts Magazine:
A collection of anything from poems to plays to editorials to playlists to paintings.
LaGMag dates way back to 2007, but only recently got back in its groove. Through weekly meetings, we discuss submitted work, publish work on our magazine’s website, create themed zines, and plan our super cool issues (which come out twice a school year).
LaGMag serves as a way to connect the student body through what LaGuardia does best: art.
Letter from our Editor
Print is dead. It has been since I was a kid in the 2010s, watching the New York Times papers dropped off on my block slowly decline as I moved through grade school. I’ve always been a sucker for a good magazine, downloading PDFs of old “Rookie”, “Sassy”, and “I-D” issues. Tavi Gevinson was my savior.
Fast forward a couple of years, and I was a freshman at the LaGuardia club fair in 2021. The LaGMag table intrigued me to my core, and I decided to join my sophomore year. The majority of the staff were upperclassmen, suffering from mass senioritis. Unfortunately, just like printed media, the mag was far from the forefront of our school. In fact, clubs at LaGuardia in general were/are largely overlooked.
I’ve never been a “rah rah school spirit” girl, but the magazine being a lasting influence was something I wanted to see in my lifetime. So, when the previous Editor in Chief (the lovely Anna) handed the torch to me, I really wanted things to be different. This year, and hopefully for many years to come, we want LaGMag to become the media that defines LaGuardia’s common culture.
In a relatively sectional school with 6 different majors, LaGMag serves as a hub for teen connection and conversation. Established in 2007, we want the mag to become something students can look back on as they live out their successful future careers.
As I said, print is dead, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a revival. I hope you love LaGMag as much as we do.
Latest LaGMag Issue
Shine | May 2024
“Shine“ was a controversial theme in our meetings, but (in my opinion) our most successful mag. Every page is a piece someone put a little bit of themselves into, which is what I think makes LaGMag so special (and particularly shiny).
This issue is only available through in school orders, however sneak peaks are available in the link below!!
